Tony Frudakis is the founder and former chief executive officer of DNAPrint Genomics, developer of the world's first consumer genomics testing products and databases, and pioneer of today's $590 million genetic ancestry and $150M forensic phenotyping marketplaces. In 2001, Genome Technology Magazine readers voted Dr. Frudakis “Most Influential” in the SNP category and his work has been covered by international media, including two Forensic Files episodes. He is also the founder and former chief executive officer of Okeanos Technologies, developer of an ultra-efficient micro electrochemical desalination process that won the 2014 Ocean Exchange Gulfstream Navigator award and which was named by Fast Company as one the world's most innovative companies
Dr. Frudakis is the author of ‘Molecular Photofitting: Predicting Ancestry and Phenotype Using DNA’, a graduate-level human genomics textbook, as well as numerous other publications, conference presentations, patents and successful grant applications. He has a solid background in ISO17025 laboratory operations and accreditation, and his NIST standards development board experience positions him to help DirectSeq forge a new quality standard for the emerging RNA therapeutics and RNome era.
He is also a skilled computational biologist, and his original modules and algorithms have developed a reputation for solving complex problems for biotechnology and pharma clients. He holds a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley and has served as an adjunct professor of biological sciences at St. Petersburg College.
